The 2018 US Sustainable Investment Forum’s (US|SIF) SRI Trends report has arrived and the executive summary can be accessed HERE.. The increase in assets flowing into Socially Responsible Investments continues to grow rapidly! The report shows that from 2016 to 2018 investment assets in the US using SRI strategies grew from 8.7 trillion at the beginning of 2016 to 12 trillion at the start of 2018. This represents an increase of 38%! These assets represent 26% of all assets under management, or 1 in every 4 dollars invested in the US.
These numbers may have led to the following statements from Larry Fink, CEO of the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock. In the October 23, 2018 issue of the Financial Times he announced that “sustainable investing will be a core component for how everyone invests in the future.” He also explained that sustainable investing did not lead to lower returns and could actually lead to higher returns.
(Indecently, the US|SIF is the only organization that a financial adviser can belong to in the U.S. that is focused on Socially Responsible Investing. As of the writing of this post, CFS is still the only member in Central Oregon.)
